No heat fro

This fro was achieved just by picking out an old twist out. I normally have to stretch my hair with heat to get a fro this big. My hair was already stretched and not tangled so I picked it out. I love it!

Btw, my one year update is coming this week. Stay tuned.

Till next time, thanks for reading. Be blessed.

Today's style

This style was achieved by necessity and laziness. I had to wash my hair cuz I've been working out and it had been at least 10 days since my last wash. But it was late and I didn't feel like doing a whole lot to it.

This is a flat twist out with the ends curled. It wasn't completely dry when I took it down this morning so it's a little fuzzy but I like it.

I'm coming up on a year of loose naps and I'm excited. Stay tuned for an update.

Trim?

I trimmed my hair almost 2 weeks ago (9/4) because my ends needed it. I flat ironed my hair trying to get it sorta straight to do the trim but my hair doesn't like straight. Lol. So it was
the big afro that I showed in my last post. Anyway, I trimmed the best I could but I was not really satisfied with the results. I wanted the back shorter. So last Saturday, I cut the back. Really short. But I love it.

What do you think?

The front and middle is still long and has colored ends. The back is much shorter without color on the ends.
The pics are of a twist out done on wet hair.

Fro'd Out

I flat ironed my hair to trim the ends. First of all, my hair doesn't get super straight when I flat iron it. The ends don't get straight at all, which is ok except it doesn't work well when trying to trim. Basically it was a disaster trying to do this but I think I did ok. Everything looks even. The resulting fro was awesome. Hubby LOVED it. He's been wanting me to fro it out like this for awhile now. So I had to take pics.

What ya think?

Today's hair

This is a flat iron twist out on freshly cowashed hair. I used my usual products. I'm feeling it. :)

Sip and Social

Saturday, there was a natural hair event in my area called Sip and Social. It was a Meetup where ladies got a little fancy and showed off their hair and socialized. Questions were asked and answered about transitioning, locs, coloring, general hair care, and health.  'Haircrush' from YouTube was there. There were drinks and music and an all around good time.

I wore my hair in an updo. I thought I was too cute.

What do you think?

Casual Friday

My students were really feeling my look today. Several told me I looked pretty. Aww!

This is a 2nd day twist out pulled up to simulate a puff.

I washed my hair Wednesday night with Hello Hydration (---- I'm loving this stuff!  My hair feels so amazingly awesome.  I think this is my new conditioner. It's even better than Garnier.

Today's hair 8/15/11

This is how I'm wearing my hair today. It's a twist out with small twists. I'm loving it! I used my aloe vera/shea butter gel for the twists.

Twist and curl

I'm loving the dry twist out with the ends curled. I tried this style about 2 weeks ago. I meant to share it with you then but school started and I've been super busy lately. What cha think?

Ragged Ends Fixed?

I think I may have found a solution to my ragged ends that I was so disgusted about a month ago.  Cowashing in sections.  I started cowashing a month ago in sections and I have seen a MAJOR improvement in my ends.  They don't feel rough anymore.  Thank you, Jesus!!!  I still have single strand knots but not nearly as bad.  I also make sure I twist my hair at night. Pineappling and/or just a satin bonnet does not work for me.

I'm glad I was able to change something simple in my routine to fix a problem that was really bothering me.

Flat iron twist out results!!

I flat ironed my hair Wednesday night and then twisted it with Cantu shea butter pomade.  I left the twists in until today (2.5 days).  The twists shrunk a little during that time but my hair was still stretched for the most part.  For the take down, I sprayed my hair with ORS Nature Shine and separated each twist.

I did not manipulate my hair any more than separating each twist.
I knew my hair would puff out a little on its own.

I added a cowrie shell and I was ready to go to a family function.
It was raining outside and I just knew my hair would be one big puff ball by the time I got back home.

But to my surprise,

it wasn't that bad.
Nice and puffy but in a good way.

I absolutely LOVED the results.  Before the rain and after.  LOL.  I never thought my hair could look like that.  The only thing I didn't like was having to apply heat to get this look.  So unfortuantely this won't be an everyday style.  I'll have to find another heat-free way to stretch my hair this much.  I also can't wait to get my hair cut so it will have a better shape.  It's not as obvious in the pics but my hair is many lengths and it needs to be fixed.  This style will look so much better when that's taken care of.   Maybe soon. ;)

Hubby loved the look.  What do you think?

I flat ironed my hair!

I have decided I'm going to get my hair professionally cut in the next 2 months. I had a consultation with my mom's stylist who has done her hair for years. Of course he said my hair would have to be straightened somehow before he could do anything to it. My last blow drying experience was horrible so I decided to use my stepdaughter's flat iron. I really just wanted to see what my hair looked like straightened.

I liked the flat iron because it has adjustable temperature on it. I only did one pass thru on on each section of hair. I did this on Wednesday night.

I decided to twist my hair for a twist out on saturday because I have a family function to attend. I had to use something new to twist my hair with since it was dry and the gel I normally use would make it wet and shrink up. I bought some cantu shea butter pomade from the bss for about $4.
The ingredients are petroleum, shea butter, and fragrance. It's more like hair grease but I'm not really sure what I expected. I used it and it left my hair soft and shiny. I can't wait to see the twist out results. Stay tuned for that.

Blog Updates

I just wanted to let you know that I've updated a few things on the blog page.  Check out my favorite youtubers and a few of the nappy blogs that I read.  They are located on the right side of the page.

I also feel the need to explain why my posts are not as frequent as expected.  Bottom line: my laptop sucks.  It's slow and it runs hot so I don't use it nearly as much as I use to.  I use my phone.  For everything, including posting updates.  I take pictures, read blogs, watch youtube, all on my phone.  Everything but talk on it (I hate talking on the phone).  So please bear with me.  Occasionally (like now) I break the laptop out for big posts.

I love you guys that follow and even those who just stop by.

Regimen: Then and Now

I've been meaning to do this post forever now. The funny thing is that my regimen has changed again since I first thought to do this topic back in May. So here, I'm going to tell you the different things that I've tried and the things that work for me now.

Pre-Poo
Then: none; honey & EVOO mix under cap for 15-30 min.

Now: coconut oil for 5-15 min.

Cleanse
Then: whatever shampoo I had; peppermint castile soap. Shampoo, then condition, no sections.

Now: cowash (cleanse w/ conditioner; detangle) in 4-8 sections.

Deep condition  (after every wash)
Then: Dr. Tingle intensive conditioner & hair mayonnaise mix all over, detangling as I go.

Now: Creme of Nature argan oil conditioner, hair mayonnaise & olive oil conditioner mix (detangling in about 8 sections then twisting) under 3 caps (plastic cap, shower cap, hair bonnet) for at least 1 hour.

Detangle
Then: Detangling while applying deep conditioner with a denman brush (half bristles removed) or wide tooth comb.

Now: Detangling while cowashing and again while applying deep conditioner in sections with fingers only.

To summarize, I am now cowashing in sections detangling as I go.  I do everything in sections now which has saved me a boatload of time, energy, and hair.  I wish I had tried this in the beginning.  I've read about people doing it but I've never been one to do what every one else was doing.  Lol!  But I guess that's why it's a journey.  My journey.  You live and you learn.

Single strand knots

Single strand knots will be the death of me and my hair. I can't stand them and I have them everywhere! The last 2 1/2 inches of my hair feel (and look) like crap. I'm tempted to cut it off. (Total length of my hair averages about 7 1/2 inches). But I don't want to cut it off only for my hair to still feel the same way. It feels fuzzy and rough and I don't like it. :(

The whole situation makes me want to lock my hair back up. The knots won't matter cuz it will all be locked anyway.  Maybe I'll grow my hair out for the rest of the year, then do a mini chop if I can wait that long.

Any suggestions?

Bantu knot out

I just knew this style would be a fail. Boy, was I wrong!?
I let the bantu knots dry for almost 48 hours. It didn't take that long for my hair to dry, I just didn't have anywhere to go so I didn't see the point in taking them down.
Anyway,  to achieve this style, I twisted the knots with my aloe vera gel/shea butter mix and let them dry.  I untwisted the knots, separated, and fluffed. Apply head band and you're done!
Check out the pics. . .

Trying a new style: bantu knot

I watched a youtube video the other day by br0nzeqt that I decided to try out today.  It was called bantu knot out. Well I haven't seen the results of the 'out' part yet but I wanted to show you what the bantu knots look like.
I'm not sure how this is going to turn out because I did mine on freshly washed hair that was wet and she did hers on damp hair (she sprayed dry hair with a spray bottle). When my hair is fully dry, I will take down and post pics.
And yes, I wore this style out to the store.
What do u think so far?
Stay tuned for the 'out' part soon.

Anniversary style revisited

I HAD to wash and condition my hair yesterday. It was well overdue and the mini twists had to go before they locked.  Instead of redoing the twists like I initially planned, I decided to revisit the style I wore for my wedding anniversary back in December.  I changed it up a little but it came out ok.
What do u think?
